This year’s political high point begins in Beijing
Thousands of delegates from different parts of China will participate in the annual meeting in Beijing with the Chinese People’s Congress, the country’s legislative assembly, starting Friday.

Although the People’s Congress is effectively powerless, the meeting is the climax of the country’s political year. This year more than usual, as 2021 marks the centenary of the founding of the Communist Party. President Xi Jinping will be in his place, along with colleagues from the Politburo standing committee, the top leader of the Communist Party.
