The Corona pandemic has paralyzed the world for months, and even though Swedes are not quarantined as citizens of other countries, Swedes appear to be more at home and, in many cases, not to go to the salon.
– At the beginning of the crown crisis I had many cancellations, it is mainly the young people who cancel the reservation, says the hairdresser Andrea Döhmers, who works in Stockholm.
But he also feels that many who no longer fix their hair have begun to accept it.
– At first people were ashamed of its growth, but then it was a bit as if they had turned it into something, that shook the growth.
But there are also those who cannot control their fingers.
– Many people who stop to go to the hairdresser think they can do it on their own, but then it goes around the corner and then they come to me, says Döhmers.
It’s about bleaching, hair that has been bleached too hard, piles that get too short, and home remedies with vitamin C, lemon, and bicarbonate. Documents that can be difficult for hairdressers to correct.
– You cut the stack and then cut a little, a little more and a little more. In the end, it’s a two-centimeter stack.
Another hairdresser who experiences many cancellations is Maria Andersson, who works in Uppsala. You have also noticed that some customers groom their hair at home.
– Some have asked us what they can buy for hair color because they do not dare to dye our hair with us. So they send someone to change them, says Maria Andersson.
Luxury soft clothes at home
Style journalist and chronicler Susanne Ljung likes to see increased use of soft, luxurious clothing during the crown pandemic, called lounge wear.
– Cashmere sweatshirts or pants, luxurious materials, stylish cuts, and colors that don’t scream sports but are more neutral, says Susanne Ljung.
The reason for the more relaxed style is that Ljung connects with the fact that more and more people work from home. Then there is a tendency to choose comfort over strict work clothes, while it may be nice to be able to attend a video conference with colleagues and look reasonably presentable.
– Not only in Sweden, but you can generally see increases in searches for that type of garment.
Heather notes that the trend has long been towards the more comfortable, sporty, but the crown crisis has given this trend a boost.
It is not clear if the trends are lasting
But will we continue to shake the garments and the luxurious soft clothes when the crown pandemic ends?
I have no idea. Who knows something in these times? But it is good to have nice clothes for the home. Personally, I think it gives a little boost, says Susanne Ljung.
Andrea Döhmers believes that domestic hairdressers will leave when they feel comfortable returning to the salon.
– This work at home leads people to pick up scissors and do unplanned things. I know it myself. Now I am a hairdresser, but when you are at home in soft clothes, you suddenly stay there with the scissors and start cutting the pile, says Andrea Döhmers.
Maria Andersson also believes that clients will return as soon as the crown pandemic ends.
“Many people who want to fix their hair but don’t dare say they can stand up until they can come to us,” says Maria Andersson.
