Trump has not given up on having four more years in the White House.
And there are still chances that he will become president, according to various experts.
– One should have waited to announce Biden’s victory, says Björn Ottosson, American researcher.
On Saturday, Joe Biden was declared the winner of this year’s presidential election by the media and news agencies. That’s after the Democratic presidential candidate extended his leadership in the key state of Pennsylvania and was deemed to have obtained the 20 electoral votes he needed to decide the election.
– You get to a point where it is extremely unlikely or in principle impossible for it to change and then you come out with this, says Merrick Tabor, an American expert at Stockholm University.
World leaders and colleagues from the Democratic Party congratulated Biden and Harris and many Americans celebrated in the streets. But Trump announced from his golf course that he is not defeated.
And there is a chance for him to have four more years in the White House.
– Yes, theoretically. But it’s very small, says Tabor.

Trump has several possible paths
According to Tabor, there are mainly two formal avenues that can give Trump victory. One is the lawsuits it has filed against the states for voter fraud.
– If you can run enough processes in the right states and have enough pro-Trump ballots rejected in them, then you might have a chance.
In Georgia, Biden’s markup of a few thousand votes was too small and can therefore be recalculated. It is not likely to change anything.
– When recalculated, there are usually a few hundred votes, says Merrick Tabor.
The allegations made so far are too weak and unfounded for a court to address, according to Tabor. The judges have already dismissed several cases for lack of evidence.
– There have been occasional incidents that may be due to administrative problems or possible attempts to cheat. They are required to show extensive and systematic cheating that may have affected the outcome.
You can try to influence voters
In Pennsylvania, Trump has questioned the decision to allow mail-in ballots to be received after Election Day.
– A state court came in and allowed the votes that came in after Election Day to be counted, something that can be legally disputed, so it can be interesting to keep an eye on the Supreme Court. But that’s about 2,000 votes and it wouldn’t affect the election result, says Tabor.
The other way is through the political majority of the state. They decide how voters are appointed and can vote for them to vote for Trump.
-But they must have arguments, such as that there are such great irregularities that point in their favor that they put the voters on top. The Trump side has had this as an opportunity, Tabor says.
He believes it takes a lot for that to happen and for a court to approve it.

American researchers: may heighten tensions
Björn Ottosson, American political scientist and FOI researcher, shares Merrick Tabor’s view of the situation.
– Trump’s chances are there, but they are minimal.
He and Tabor both point to a third possibility: that voters in some states can vote for whomever they want. It has happened, but the outcome of an election has never changed.
– But there is always a variable.
But Björn Ottosson criticizes the fact that Biden has already declared himself the winner of the election, despite Trump’s unlikely chances of winning.
When there are so many Trump supporters who suspect voter fraud, it would have been better to let the processes take time before someone declared the winner.
This runs the risk of increasing tensions and makes it difficult for Biden to unite the country when he becomes president, he says.
– Say that Trump would win small victories in disputes. So what? If something debatable has happened, it can increase tensions and mistrust.
Should be ready in December
All disputes must be resolved by December 8. Merrick Tabor does not believe that Trump’s own campaign believes they can change the outcome of the election.
– Trump has a tradition of threatening lawsuits, he has done it all his life. But he and his lawyers probably don’t think it will work. They want to convince their voters that the election result is due to a trap.
On December 14, the electorate will vote for their presidential candidate. The vote is secret and will be inaugurated by Congress on January 6. Two weeks later, the new president is installed.
Until then, Donald Trump is president. Many have expressed concern about what he will do with what is likely to be his last term in power.
– Will you start to forgive a lot of people or will you issue a lot of executive orders? I would be surprised if he no Think of something, says Merrick Tabor.
