A man in his 30s was trapped in a fireplace in the center of Gävle at 04:00 on Sunday night.
– He didn’t break free. When he was trapped there, he contacted SOS Alarm. It wasn’t so tight that he panicked, but it wasn’t very big either, says Anders Holm, an RLC officer in the Gävleborg police.
When the rescue service and the police managed to locate the man, he was 10-15 meters down the chimney. The rescue service managed to lift the man celebrating with a harness.
Anders Holm says it is unclear how the man succeeded with the feat and how he ended up so far down the chimney without hurting himself.
– But it can be said that it was due to intoxication. It was in the apartment building where he lives. At first we thought it didn’t sound clear that it could be so big that you fell over, but obviously that was it. Ambulance staff checked him out and judged him unharmed, so the girlfriend took over, says Anders Holm.
