The man who was trapped in the pillar was busy with maintenance work and, among other things, would replace some bulbs that illuminate the artworks at Birk Centerpark in Herning in Jutland.
At 10 pm, about 20 people were drilling a hole in the pillar to reach the man who was stuck.
The man was unable to communicate. No one had been in contact with him since a tow truck driver alerted him to the incident at 6 p.m.
The helicopter was deployed
His relatives had been informed that the man had been involved in an accident, but therefore they had not been able to obtain any information about his state of health.
A helicopter was also deployed in the rescue operation.
A volunteer from the rescue service was to be held by the pipe from above to try to reach the man. In the field below, a doctor was waiting.
The pillars of the artwork are illuminated and the lamps are very difficult to replace. On Tuesday, a search for seeds would be conducted to replace the lights in a new and more efficient way.
Work is in an accident
Somehow this went wrong and it got over the top of the maintenance staff.
The sculptor Ingvar Cronhammar, born in Hässleholm in 1947, created Elia in 2001.
The artwork has had an accident. In October 2016, a man fell from a height and died. In December of that year, a woman took her own life by jumping off Elijah.
In spring 2017, a craftsman broke both wrists when he fell in connection with the installation of a rescue net, according to Herning Folkeblad.
