The Spanish municipal politician spoke through a link to the European Commission.
English was perfect.
The acting is a little worse.
Carlos Galiana, Seville councilor with responsibility for education and innovation issues, has had to live with the contempt and anger of the neighbors after his appearance before the European Commission this Thursday, writes The Guardian.
When the mayor had to cancel, it was up to Galiana, on short notice, to tell the EU elite why Seville should become the Union’s capital of innovation in 2020. And so it did.
English perfect
The speech was carried out in perfect English without the slightest hint of a Spanish accent and far from the usual stereotype of English-speaking Spaniards who have established themselves behind characters like Manuel in the television series “Pang en la Construcción”.
– Good morning from Valencia, Galiana began her speech and sent a big hug and congratulations to her audience through a link from her hometown.
The mouth moved noticeably under the large black mouth guard worn by the city council during the speech. But the slightly too perfect English, combined with strange gestures in a Spanish context like the one he took seriously when saying “it’s an honor”, he quickly revealed to Galiana.

I didn’t have an interpreter
It was all fake and Carlos Galiana, himself a trained amateur actor, imitated the English-speaking voice.
The municipal leadership handled the crisis quickly and announced that they wanted an interpreter to stand by Galiana’s side and translate from Spanish. But the European Commission had emphatically said no to that.
This did not help the city council from being exposed to spitting and spitting on social media when he tried to joke with himself in a now-deleted post on Twitter. “Sometimes the worst decisions make the best stories,” he wrote.
Compared to Milli Vanilli
He has been accused of poking fun at all of Spain, and has been compared to pop duo Milli Vanilli, who quickly disappeared after it was revealed that they pampered his songs. Her biggest hit song was called, ironically in context, “Girl You Know It’s True”. One of the members was found dead a few years later after a cocaine overdose in Germany.
Despite the innovative performance, he did not go all the way for Sevilla de Galiana. The innovation capital of this year 2020 instead headed to Leuven, the capital of Flemish Brabant in central Belgium.
