A 15-year-old boy was asked to remove the cross he wore around his neck during a school photo session, according to a report by the Ombudsman Against Discrimination, reports Dagen.

– He asked me to remove the cross, which was not right in the school photo, says the 15-year-old to Dagen, who reports that he did what he was told.

The task has made Archbishop Antje Jackelén react.

– It was a very inappropriate incident and at the same time it doesn’t surprise me much. I think it’s the tip of an iceberg that we see here, he tells Dagen.

The school principal tells the newspaper that what happened is strange and that the photographer made the wrong decision.

The Swedish Association of Student Photographers (SER) writes in its image policy that “banners, posters, clothing or other attributes with racist or discriminatory messages, as well as political and religious messages are not allowed.”

It can be seen as a prohibition to carry a cross in the image.

– Then you can interpret it. So I don’t think a Christian cross is particularly disturbing. This is an individual problem. I do not want to interpret it so rabidly, says Märt Pärtma, president of SER, to Dagen, and opens to a change in policy.

– We may not have thought enough about this topic.
