It has been more than 30 years since Norwegian girl Therese Johannessen disappeared without a trace of Fjell in Drammen. Now the police have found his DNA.
Therese Johannessen, aged nine, disappeared without a trace just over 30 years ago.
The DNA trail certainly doesn’t say anything about how 9-year-old Therese disappeared. But it can lead to further breakthroughs in research, as one can now pursue it in other ways.
The DNA profile has been painstakingly compiled using the material of a pillowcase and an eraser, according to a new documentary.
Therese Johannessen disappeared without a trace on July 3, 1988, in connection with her visit to a kiosk to buy sweets. Swede Sture Bergwall, then Thomas Quick, confessed to the murder and was convicted in 1998, but was later acquitted of the crime in 2011.
The “skeletal remains” found in connection with Bergwall’s confession turned out to be wood chips, meaning that there are no physical traces of Therese since the disappearance.
But Norwegian authorities believe she was kidnapped and killed. A group of open cases took up the case in 2017.
