Heavy Republicans continue their devotion to Donald Trump.
Although no evidence of cheating has been presented, they claim their right to appeal the result of the election.
A dangerous advance for democracy and an indication of the difficulties Joe Biden will face as president.

As long as they see the slightest chance to retain power, Republican leaders act against better knowledge. Everyone realizes that it was Joe Biden who won the presidential election and that there was no electoral fraud. But as long as there is a microscopic possibility that Donald Trump in his gangster ways could steal victory, they are ready to defend the great leader.
I wonder how many Republican politicians can no longer spell the word directly.
The Trump presidency has been characterized by a huge ass licking by the once reluctant Republican power apparatus. Most have become people who say yes without criticism, aware that their own position depends on not resenting or speaking out against the president.
Then it happens with Secretary of Defense Mark Esper (and many others before him) that Trump fired on Twitter yesterday. Esper publicly refused to use military force against the protesters, so he spoke out against the president.
The latest example of flatness is Senate Republican Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who claims that the president has “one hundred percent right to challenge the legality of presidential elections.”
He says it at the same time that he praises the Republican success in the elections to both houses of Congress.

The ballot papers for the presidential election and the elections to the Senate and House of Representatives are the same. The presidential election is at the top of the ballot and other elections below.
Logical somersault
So, in McConnell’s eyes, ballots are legal and correct when it comes to the congressional election, but they can be challenged when it comes to the presidential election.
A logical somersault in high school.
At the same time, he is careful not to repeat the president’s allegations of electoral fraud, so that he has his own way out if the ones he hoped for turn out to be unfounded.
Attorney General William Barr, one of Trump’s most devoted worshipers, has given federal prosecutors the green light to investigate allegations of voter fraud, although this has always been primarily the job of the states. A way to appease Trump and reinforce the image that a hoax may have occurred even though no evidence was presented. A message that caused the head of the electoral crimes department to resign in protest.

The two Republicans in Georgia forced to run for re-election to retain their Senate seats are among those making the most noise during Trump’s cheating accusations. They demand that the person ultimately responsible for the Georgia elections, a Republican, resign. This after he said that there are no signs of electoral fraud in the state.
Senators want to save their own skin and hope that supporting Trump will win their re-election in January.
That Trump is a lousy loser is no surprise, but his refusal to admit defeat could have dire consequences for American democracy.
Courts reject
Democracy is based on the confidence of the people in the electoral process. If it is undermined, confidence in democracy will weaken. Which is exactly what Trump is doing for purely selfish reasons. You simply cannot persuade yourself to admit defeat.
A week after the election, Trump and his accomplice Rudy Giuliani have yet to come up with a single credible evidence of organized or widespread electoral fraud.
They repeat the same boring claims about dead people who voted, packing the ballots submitted by Republican election watchers and strangers who were not allowed to follow the count.
None of his accusations have been proven true. So far, all the demands of the Trump campaign have been rejected by the courts.

Changing the outcome of the election requires proof of such extensive deception or error that it can change the outcome of the election. Biden leads in Pennsylvania with more than 45,000 votes. A larger margin than Trump won the state in 2016 against Hillary Clinton, who immediately declared defeat even though Trump’s total profit margin in the three decisive states was below 80,000 votes.
So I didn’t hear from any Republican who thought they would wait to nominate a winner until all the votes had been counted.
Getting ready for a comeback
Trump’s vanity slows the peaceful transition of power that is about to take place. The intention is for the White House to cooperate with the incoming administration to make the transition as smooth as possible. So far, the Trump administration has refused to issue a letter giving Camp Biden access to money and office space.
Rather than concede defeat and try to reduce polarization in American society, Trump plans to organize protest rallies across the country against alleged election fraud. There is even talk that he would embark on a new round of campaign rallies despite the election having been decided.
On his website, he calls on supporters to contribute financially to a “defense fund” where, however, part of the money will go to fill the financial gaps in the final sprint of the election. Trump doesn’t want to take out his own coffers.
Trump’s refusal may also be part of a larger plan in which he is preparing for a comeback in 2024 or he simply wants to maintain his unique role in American politics and sabotage as much as he can for his successor.
Some 30 former Republican congressmen congratulated Joe Biden on the victory and called on Trump to admit defeat.
Four Republican senators have congratulated Joe Biden.
The rest of the party’s congressmen either keep quiet or support Trump. It is a sad sight to witness. If the situation had been the other way around, the Republicans would have been furious.
History’s verdict may be harsh for Republican supporters of the jam.
