Can Santa vaccinate Americans against covid-19? Stock Photography.
Santa, his wife, and the elves were promised a Christmas present in the form of an early covid-19 vaccine. But now the plan, which was part of a federal marketing campaign in the United States, has been scrapped.
Christmas is fast approaching as the corona virus has tied the grip on the United States. And to get help marketing a vaccine, an idea came up in the Federal Department of Health to enlist the help of advertising pillars of a more unusual kind: people dressing up as Santa Claus, Santa Claus or Santa Claus.
Santa’s staff could get an early Christmas present in the form of access to a covid vaccine before the rest of the public. In return, they would be part of a campaign that would cost taxpayers $ 250 million ($ 2.1 billion), the Health Department confirmed to The New York Times.
Celebrity campaign
Other celebrities would also be recruited to encourage Americans to take a syringe once a vaccine is approved, which has yet to happen. Democrats have criticized that the tax money would go to “a political propaganda campaign disguised as a public health campaign” because the hope was to launch advertising before the November elections.
But now the plot has been scrapped and the rest of the campaign will be examined, says the Ministry of Health for the US media.
Behind the idea of the Santa collaboration was senior official Michael Caputo, who was on sick leave shortly after accusing investigators on Facebook last month of linking to the government to actively oppose President Donald Trump.
Health Minister Alex Azar has had no knowledge of how the discussions have gone or who Caputo has contacted, according to a spokesman for the Health Ministry.
The Wall Street Journal writes that in August Caputo named The Fraternal Order of True Bearded Saints, an organization for men who look like Santa Claus. During the phone conversation, it was asked if members of the organization might consider joining the campaign.
“Ho Ho Ho!”
In a recording, which the newspaper has read, it seems that President Ric Erwin says yes with enthusiasm.
– If you and your colleagues cannot be considered “absolutely necessary personnel”, I don’t know who you are, says Caputo.
– Ho! Ho! Ho! Erwin responds happily.
According to Erwin, almost a hundred elves were willing to participate in the vaccination campaign and he claims that they had been promised a complete plan by mid-September. But now you’re probably waiting for a Christmas without a ready-made vaccine and therefore canceled appearances in a red and white suit.
– They may have lied to the plot a bit, says Erwin in The Wall Street Journal.
