The tradition of the Swedish Armed Forces of flying Christmas tree-shaped JAS 39 Gripen aircraft over Swedish cities will also continue in 2020.
The Air Force, with its units from north to south, will carry out several flights in December.
Already this week, Skaraborg’s air flotilla, F7, will fly over central Gothenburg.
Then comes the Christmas tree flight to Gothenburg.
On Wednesday, December 9 at 2:00 p.m., the Armed Forces estimate that the Christmas tree will be visible in the sky over Gothenburg.
The flight starts at 12:52 p.m. in Åmål and ends in Lidköping at 2:28 p.m.
The following week, December 16, there will also be a formation flight with the TP 84 Hercules models, then in the form of a Christmas ball.
There, the show is expected to fly over the city at 11:16.
However, times may change due to, for example, bad weather or other factors.
“Aviation safety always has the highest priority,” writes the Swedish Armed Forces.
Greetings to the public
According to the Swedish Armed Forces, the event is both an exercise and a way of saying Merry Christmas to the public.
“The formation flight, the Christmas tree flight, is a good exercise for combat flight divisions to plan and conduct larger formation flights over a longer period of time. It is also a way for the Air Force to show presence, as a guarantor of citizen security in the face of external threats, in places where the Armed Forces may not be seen as frequently, ”the Armed Forces wrote in a press release.
