The spread of the infection so rampant a few weeks ago in Uppsala has slowed somewhat.

But the number of people needing care or dying from the virus has continued to rise.

And now the region has reported its youngest death to date.

The number of new corona cases is no longer increasing as fast as a couple of weeks ago in the Uppsala region. Those responsible for the sampling speak of a plateau phase, but Fredrik Sund, chief of operations of the infection clinic at the University Hospital, does not.

There, they have had to adapt quickly to serve all the COVID patients that are arriving. On Wednesday, 105 people were treated with the virus in the region, which is the highest number during the second wave. In the VAT pavilion 16 people were attended.

“Not to mention any plateau phase”

– It may be a plateau phase or something like that which is happening when it comes to expansion in society and of course it is very positive if it were. But it is also important to remember that it is still a very high level and that it constantly generates new cases in society and health. We clearly see that healthcare cases are increasing and this is not a plateau phase here. It is also not to be expected because we see those who enter hospitals arrive within one to two and a half weeks after they fell ill with covid, he said during the last press conference on Thursday.

Person under 20 years old deceased

Yesterday, the Uppsala Region reported four deaths in covid-19, of which one of the deceased is between 10 and 19 years old. He is the youngest person to die from the virus so far in the region.

Across the country, only two children, ages 0 to 9, have died with confirmed COVID-19, according to statistics from the Swedish Public Health Agency. FHM has not yet recorded the latest death in Uppsala.

The region does not provide information on the person who died of an underlying disease or the exact age due to patient confidentiality, says the press manager of the Academic Hospital.
