Convicted killer Robert Duboise, 55, has been in prison for 37 years.

But he is innocent.

With new DNA technology, he has been shown not to rape or murder, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

Barbara Grams, 19, went home from work one night in August 1983.

It would be the last ride of his life.

In the vicinity of Barbara’s workplace, a restaurant in a shopping center in the city of Tampa, Florida, was attacked by three men.

Barbara was raped. Then they killed her with firewood.

An employee of the city park administration found the body in a nearby garden the next morning.

Shortly after the brutal murder, the police were able to arrest then-teenager Robert Duboise. The prosecutor claimed that he, along with two other people, assaulted Barbara Grams, raped her and then killed her.

The other two people were never charged.

Was sentenced to death

The evidence against Duboise consisted mainly of leads, but what the court ruled, and ultimately led to a conviction, were statements by dentist Richard Souviron.

Dr. Souviron, an expert in dental law, claimed that a bite mark on Barbara Gram’s cheek came from Duboise.

More evidence comes from a man admitted to an institution in the area. He claimed that Duboise had confessed to the rape.

Robert Duboise was sentenced to death in 1985 for murder and rape.

The death sentence was subsequently commuted to life imprisonment.

DNA found

In recent years, Florida courts have begun to evaluate evidence in the form of bit marks with more skepticism.

“Today I would never have said what I said 37 years ago,” Richard Souviron told the Tampa Bay Times.

For a long time it was thought that all the evidence in the case was missing, but attorney Susan Friedman in New York, with the help of a colleague, managed to find the material of the samples taken from the victim.

“Since the verdict is based solely on these two testimonies, it was an indication to us that Robert may have been innocently convicted,” he told the Tampa Bay Times.

And it turned out that attorney Friedman was right.

New negotiation

The DNA material from the target was analyzed using modern technology and it turned out that it did not come from Duboise at all. He also did not match the other two men, who were initially suspects in the case.

On the other hand, they met two other people, one of whom is now interested in the murder investigation, which has been reopened.

The new findings were presented in a court of law.

Local media described the hearing as a formality.
