Namibia will establish special courts to deal only with suspected cases of sexual abuse and crimes against women.

This was announced by the country’s prime minister, Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, after a government meeting on Tuesday.

The mineral-rich country, located in southern Africa, has been plagued with high levels of violence against women for many years.

“We share the displeasure felt by the people of Namibia at these crimes and we fully agree with the public that this situation cannot be allowed to continue,” the prime minister said in a written statement in connection with the announcement.

The decision comes a week after four days of protests against violent crimes against women in the country.

In connection with the demonstrations, a petition was delivered demanding political action to address the problem.

During the demonstrations, 25 young women were arrested for violating the crown’s ban on crowds of more than 50 people. The women were then released without criminal suspicion.
