During November, the police gathered forces to deal with the wave of robberies against the elderly in Svedala, to no avail. One of those most recently affected is the mother of the municipal police Janne Nilsson, who is in her 90s.
– Even if you are refined at work, it is so boring, he says.
“It’s the same shit as the other cases.” The mother of the municipal police Janne Nilsson is one of the latest victims of the wave of robberies against the elderly of Svedala.
In 2020, the number of robberies has almost quadrupled in the municipality of Svedala. Last year, the police received 14 reports; So far this year, the corresponding figure is 54.
The peak came in early fall with a score of robberies in the space of two months. As Sydsvenskan previously reported, several of the reports have been made by residents of Klockarejorden in the central urban area of Svedala or on adjacent streets.
On November 1, the police began Special surveillance in the area. In recent weeks, patrols in cars and bicycles have moved through the streets, among other things to control traffic.
– It was a lot in October and early November. After that, everything was quiet for a few weeks and then continued, says Janne Nilsson.
– Thefts take place during the day and it is mainly the elderly who are affected – very rude.
One theory has been that the perpetrators are scanning parking lots and watching when people leave their homes. Janne Nilsson says that he himself has spent a lot of time moving around Svedala in hopes of finding a clue.
– It’s the same mode all the time, so we think it’s the same perpetrator. We have some film from a camera outside a house.
On Friday, the police received another report from the area. Once again, the thieves attacked, when the resident, who is a woman in her 70s, had left home for a short period.
– As in many of the other cases, the thief stole gold jewelry and cash, says Janne Nilsson.
In November, the police received a total of five applications. One of the latter concerns Janne Nilsson’s own mother, who is in her 90s. It says the mother had moved into a residence the week before the robbery.
– We arrived on a Saturday morning and found out. You don’t know for sure when it happened because it was empty for a few days.
The family had already emptied the house of valuables and the thieves got nothing. Preventive measures like lighting the timers had also failed.
Janne Nilsson believes that the frustration is the same, regardless of the fact that this time it was a close relative who was affected.
– It’s the same shit as in the other cases, he says.
– You get mad, even if you are refined at work, it is so boring.
What are your prospects for stopping this?
– We hope the movie provides something and will continue with some coverage in the future.
