The request for an agreement in a crisis situation applies to intensive care and intermediate care staff at the University Hospital. This agreement means, among other things, that the working day can be extended to 48 hours per week.
“For employees, this means that they can be scheduled with long shifts and we understand that it is difficult because they worked so hard throughout the pandemic. But the situation is very serious and we must ensure that health care is staffed to meet the needs. This is a decision that nobody wants to make, but we have to make it, “says Emilie Orring (M), president of the regional board, in the press release.
Tense situation
In the Uppsala region, a special medical management has been established to handle the corona pandemic. That leadership notes that the staff situation is very tense and that attempts have been made to resolve the situation in other ways, but that a crisis situation agreement is now considered necessary.
“We must guarantee care for the most serious patients. We have already done what we can by redistributing resources, both within the region’s own administrations and with the help of private care providers. We also believe that the difficult situation at the hospital it will continue for the foreseeable future, ”says Director of Health and Medical Care Mikael Köhler.
