A total of 187,757 people have died with confirmed COVID-19 in the US, in Sweden 5,835.

On Saturday, several US outlets reported that more than double, 410,000 people, were feared to have died from the coronavirus by the turn of the year. This is according to a new model developed by a University of Washington Health Research Center (IHME). At the same time, the IHME warns that the figure could be even higher if restrictions are lifted in the country:

– If it is the strategy of herd immunity that will be applied from now on, which means that the government does not carry out more interventions, the number of deaths may increase to 620,000, says IHME, writes CNN.

Other forecasts are not so aggressive. The U.S. National Public Health Agency (CDC) predicts a total of 211,000 deaths by September 26.

Most deaths in North America

Peru, Belgium, Spain, the United Kingdom, Chile, Brazil and Italy have so far had more deaths per capita than the United States and Sweden. San Marino and Andorra also have a higher proportion of deaths but they also have a very small population compared to the other countries mentioned.

Globally, 874,488 people have died as a result of the coronavirus and more than 26.6 million cases of covid have been reported.

Sweden stands out in the Nordic region

In the Nordic countries, Sweden still excels in deaths and confirmed cases of infection, both in number and per capita. In deaths per capita, Denmark, Finland, Norway and Iceland will be in order.
