Failure at the shooting range, but success on the slopes.
Martin Ponsiluoma finished ninth in Thursday’s sprint, despite three booms.
– I’m a bit surprised myself, he tells Sportbladet.
The Swedish biathlon team had a dream start to the season when the World Cup began in Finnish Kontiolax last week. In total, there were five blue-yellow podiums.
Today, as the second week of competition began, however, the Swedish men were paralyzed at the shooting range and instead it was the Norwegian brother couple Johannes and Tarjei Bö who stole the show.
Tarjei took home the victory and Johannes finished third. German Arnd Peiffer took home second place.
“Incredible”
The big exclamation point was otherwise that Martin Ponsiluoma came in ninth, despite three booms. This after being the fastest of to in the tracks.
– Absolutely incredible, says SVT expert Helena Ekholm.
– Yes, I am very happy with skiing. It is first class. Then there are some barriers too on the dike, but overall I am very happy. It will be a fun hunting start on Saturday, Ponsiluoma tells Sportbladet.
Can Norwegians be careful?
– Haha yes. But it is at the shooting range where you decide.
But that you go like this here Quickly?
– Yeah, I’m actually a bit surprised. But I also ran well last weekend and I already realized that the form is there. But that today would be so good, I didn’t really think so, says Ponsiluoma.
“Disappointed”
The rides were, as I said, the big exclamation point for the Swedish side. Samuelsson also showed good form on the slopes.
– I’m disappointed in today’s shooter. Otherwise it is not a disaster site (18th place). It was a good ride so I still take it very positively, says Samuelsson at SVT.
Peppe Femling finished 26th, Jesper Nelin 29th and Malte Stefansson 86th. Therefore, the latter is not allowed to conduct the start of the hunt on Saturday.
