Last night, the Swedish Transport Administration made a drastic decision for the train section between Lund and Helsingborg.
The reason is that there are cracks in the grooves.
All Öresund trains on the route have been canceled and the Pågatåget can only run 70 kilometers per hour, instead of 180 kilometers per hour.
Work to correct the errors is expected to continue for several weeks.
– I must say I thought it was a great joke. So we got information on this last night. The Öresund trains are canceled and the Pågatåget can run once an hour, says Carina Zachau (M), regional councilor and chair of the public transport committee.
“Terribly angry”
According to Carina Zachau (M), he is outrageously bad at the Swedish Transport Administration.
– I can say that I was terribly angry, cursed and pissed off at the terrible information that came from the Swedish Transport Administration and the way they treat our passengers. This is a stretch that is very busy with many passengers, she says.
Now the administration is working full time to implement replacement traffic that works and is safe for the crown, says Carina Zachau (M).
– This is happening in the middle of a pandemic. Our hope is that we can replace traffic in a safe way for the crown. This is a shock to everyone. How has this not been discovered before? I also don’t know the state of other slopes in Skåne. That said, it is fortunate that no accident occurred, says Carina Zachau (M).
“The rails can come off”
The Swedish Transport Administration explains that cracks in the track have been found at various locations between Helsingborg and Lund.
– It is a total distance of seven kilometers. Therefore, the speed of the trains is reduced and we do it for safety reasons. There are many trains on this stretch and when it’s colder and lower degrees, the rails can become more brittle, says Lii Hulander, press contact for the Swedish Transport Administration.
She continues.
– In the worst case, this may mean that the rails can come off.
