British Health Secretary Matt Hancock says other parts of the country face the most severe restrictions.
The British government claims that other parts of the country will be subject to the strictest crown restrictions. The reason is that the new, more contagious crown mutation is spreading.
Health Minister Matt Hancock says the Midlands, the northeastern part of the country, and parts of the north and southwest will be subject to the fourth and highest level of coronary restrictions from midnight through New Year’s Eve.
“Unfortunately this new variant is spreading across most of England and the number of cases is rapidly doubling,” he said in Parliament.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson tells BBC political editor Laura Kuenssberg that 60 percent of new cases stem from the new variant of the virus, something the British government did not count on.
– It spreads rapidly from the places where it started, in East London and Kent. And sadly, it is spreading across the country, he says.
The so-called level four means, among other things, that all non-essential shops, as well as hair salons and fitness facilities, are closed and that residents must stay home.
Hancock says three-quarters of England’s population will be covered by level four as of Thursday.
