The main US military condemns the assault on the Capitol in a statement, in which it clearly supports Joe Biden as incoming president.

“Freedom of speech and assembly does not give anyone the right to use force, incitement or rebellion,” writes the Joint Chiefs of Staff, led by General Mark Milley.
The unusual statement comes less than a week after Trump supporters violently attacked Congress in Washington DC. “Any attempt to alter the constitutional order is not only contrary to our traditions, values and our oath, it is against the law,” the statement added.
Acting President Donald Trump is not mentioned, but it is clear from the military leadership that he will obey Joe Biden’s orders in the future, and that the incoming president will be sworn in as decided on January 20.
Trump has stubbornly claimed, but without proof, that it was he who won the election.
The Supreme Defense Council, which represents the various branches of the United States military, writes that the military “will defend the United States against all enemies, domestic and foreign.”
