Isadora Wronski, the Swedish director of Greenpeace, is in Lysekil and has previously said that she has long-term perseverance.
– We will continue to stop this environmental crime until Stefan Löfven takes responsibility and stops the planned expansion of Preemraff and begins the phase-out of all fossil fuels in Sweden, he says, adding that the world is in a climate emergency.
But despite that, Rainbow Warrior moved out on Friday night. This is after the Swedish Maritime Administration has opened the street, provided the police are on site. According to the authority’s press unit, one of the trapped ships, Hern Ocean, was able to leave the port.
– After the Swedish Maritime Administration opened the street, Hern Ocean started moving. Because we prioritize safety first, we decided to move. Now we have anchored some distance and we are waiting, says Isadora Wronski.
The refinery continues to produce
Preemraff also says they have good stamina.
– I can’t say how long you can accept this, but so far we produce and deliver, says Stig Nilsson in the company’s communications department.
According to him, this is also a maritime law issue.
– The Swedish Maritime Administration is responsible for the street. The question is whether you can handle a street like this, when the traffic here is important for Swedish supply security, he says.
More tanker trucks are expected to arrive
Both the police, the Coast Guard and the Swedish Maritime Administration are involved in attempts to get Greenpeace to break the blockade. On Friday afternoon, a police ship arrived at Rainbow Warrior and ordered the ship to leave the area, as the Swedish Maritime Administration canceled it.
– It seems to them on board that they understood this and were satisfied with the publicity they received, so we will see if they leave now, said Christer Fuxbord, the police spokesman at the time.
The two tankers that have been locked up in the product port are Tern Ocean and Tarnbris, under the Danish flag. The tanker that was forced to anchor abroad is the Grena Knutsen, flying the Bahamian flag. Three more tankers were expected to arrive in Lysekil on Friday.
“Peaceful protest continues”
What happens now is still unclear. The street is currently open, but Rainbow Warrior is not far away. They have anchored off Malmö. According to Isadora Wronski, the peaceful akiton continues.
Will you go back and block the street?
– We never want to comment on future plans. but we have the opportunity to stay if necessary. We see a bit of how the different ships choose to move, but the peaceful protest continues.
