The success of the Öberg sisters, both on the podium when Hanna won

The Swedish biathlon team had an excellent opening weekend of the World Cup in Kontiolahti last week with four podium finishes in total.

This week it is again in Kontiolahti where the competition takes place, and then the success continued.

Hanna Öberg won her first sprint competition at the World Cup last Sunday after excellent shooting and skiing, and today the Swede impressed again.

The Swede fired fully in the first shot and despite the wind being noticeable in the second, the Swede managed to hold on and fired fully again. Today he was also fast on the track and in the end Öberg took a safe advantage which he later maintained.

“I feel so safe”

He earned his second consecutive World Cup victory, again in the sprint.

– It feels absolutely fantastic. My feeling on the shooting range, I’m really safe there. It blew some more when I got to my feet and waited a while before starting to shoot. But I feel so confident that when I started filming it was as usual, Hanna Öberg tells SVT Sport.

But Hanna Öberg was not the only Öberg on the podium. Because behind her, little sister Elvira also represented a great effort. The 21-year-old started with five hits, but missed a shot in the second.

But on the track, Elvira was very strong and finished third, a position she held and first place in the World Cup was a given.

Ekholm Tribute

Thus, the Öberg sisters shared the podium for the first time in their careers. Among them was the French Anais Chevalier-Bouchet.

– I’m so happy. I have known I have potential, but achieving it is a wonderful feeling. I opened hard and they told me early that it was fine. I really worked at the shooting range today. It was a struggle to stay put, but I’m very happy, says Elvira Öberg.

Being able to share a stool with little sister Elvira was, of course, special for Hanna Öberg.

– I think mom and dad probably find it difficult to have an emotional relationship at home on the couch. I also have it now when Elvira drives so well. It feels great and I am very happy for Elvira’s sake, says Hanna Öberg.

SVT expert Helena Ekholm was full of admiration for the sisters.

– I do not know what to say. It is so incredibly well done. It’s great to see. Hanna and Elvira have fantastic races today and Elvira is there with a boom. He’s so big when he’s so young.

Boom in other swedish

Four other Swedes started in Kontiolahti but they had nothing to do with the first places.

Mona Brorsson missed a shot but was worse on the track and came in 14th. Anna Magnusson also stood out with a boom and finished 23rd.

Johanna Skottheim, who has yet to miss a shot before the competition, started well with zero but then blocked two shots on the second shot and finished 20th. For Linn Persson it was even worse with three shots in total, all on the second shot. He finished in 40th place.

This weekend awaits the start of the hunt and the relay for both women and men.
