A second wave of coronavirus has reached Europe, according to a new report from the EU’s infection control authority, ECDC.
– We are clearly in a second wave. We expect a continued increase in the number of infected, Agoritsa Baka, crisis preparedness expert at ECDC, tells Swedish radio Ekot.
The spread of the infection has increased since August, mostly in recent weeks, according to the report, which is the body’s 13th since the outbreak of the pandemic.
According to the previous assessment, the spread of infection was most evident in people between the ages of 20 and 40, but now there is a greater spread in older ages as well.
Agoritsa Baka urges Member States to continue investing in infection tracking, provide support for testing, and prepare medical care for increased pressure and protect vulnerable populations.
The worst differential is recorded in the Czech Republic, Belgium, France, Spain and Italy.
