The Corona vaccine is underway in nursing homes and in just over a month it is time for the next group.

It is, among other things, people over 70 years of age and caregivers who are part of the group, but exactly how it will be has not yet been decided.

– Regions will tailor vaccination based on local conditions that exist, says Emma Spak.

On Sunday, the first people in Sweden were vaccinated against covid-19. Since then, vaccination in the first group has gone well. In any case, says Emma Spak, section head of the section of health and medical care in the municipalities and regions of Sweden, SKR.

According to the plan, the first approximately 5,000 doses will be distributed now and vaccination is expected to continue after New Year’s weekend.

– What we have heard about the vaccination is that it has gone very well. We have not received any reports of serious side effects, says Emma Spak.

The first group to be vaccinated includes people who live in nursing homes, who receive home care, and relatives of those who receive home care.

They receive the vaccine in the next phase

But in early February, the vaccination of the second group is expected to begin. That group is much larger than the group that is being vaccinated now, but SKR does not yet know exactly how many it is.

– We have general guidelines on who should be vaccinated in the second phase. It is, for example, people over the age of 70 and people with a disease, or condition, who put them at risk, says Emma Spak.

In Tuesday’s press conference, state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell announced that it is people over the age of 70, people over the age of 18 who are cared for within LSS, and health and care personnel who work close to patients and recipients of care, who are included in phase two of vaccination.

– It is very good that the vaccination programs have started, says Anders Tegnell and adds that everything has worked well so far.

Although two are expected to start in February and last until the first quarter of 2021.

– The image of the goal that has been set is that we should be ready during the first quarter or a little in April, he says.

Don’t book an appointment, yet

But exactly what vaccination will look like for the second group has not been decided yet and will vary between regions.

– The regions will adapt the vaccination according to the local conditions that exist. In some regions it may be necessary for teams to go to people’s homes, and in others it may be the case that vaccination is carried out in primary care. In some regions, you will receive a citation, in others you may need to book an appointment yourself, says Emma Spak.

– But right now you shouldn’t call the call center and try to make an appointment. It’s not possible now.

Everyone should be vaccinated within six months.

After the risk groups, vaccination of the rest of the population is expected.

The goal set by SKR and the government is that all Swedes over 18, and people under 18 who need to be vaccinated for medical reasons, should be vaccinated before the year 2021 begins.

– It is a high goal that is based on all vaccines being approved and everything working as it should, says Emma Spak.
