It’s just before 11pm on New Years Eve in front of the small Raumergården hotel in the Ask community, usually a half hour drive north of Oslo and a quarter southwest of Gardermoen Airport.

But not now, when a large area of land to the south and west of Ask is cordoned off. Oslo’s main road is blocked by the military several kilometers south of the race area.

Through detours, help of all kinds now reaches the Ask center, where a temporary command center has been established at the hotel. The so-called Nusar team over the public address system of the Gothenburg rescue service, which in extreme conditions for a couple of days, however, has stayed away for a while, for pandemic reasons not to stay among their Norwegian colleagues.

Tomas Norberg leads The Nusar y team writes to DN that on New Years Eve they set up a work surface on the west side and prepared for action on New Years Day.

A road was built overnight to the edge of the landslide and this morning the first land operation began in the southwestern part. A Norwegian team has worked with us.

With the help of cellular plastic blocks, they have managed to create a walkway into the area. The police dog trainers have been working with the teams all day. An area 100×200 meters deep has been scanned. A deceased person was found next to one of the buildings. Work will continue with the Norwegian teams tomorrow. Our work is completed and the group returns to Gothenburg. Sincerely, Tomas Norberg Rescue Service Greater Gothenburg Sent from my iPhone

As DN talks to the Norwegian police and rescue service, a truck full of gravel roars in front, the gravel being used to build roads in the landslide area. Everything Norway has in the form of volunteers, the army, civil defense and the Red Cross is now gathered here, around the hotel.

The leader of the police task, Dag André Sylju, tells DN that at the moment there are around 1,000 residents who have been evacuated and some of them have been staying at the Raumergården hotel.

Many of them They know that their houses and apartments no longer exist, but most still hope to be able to return to their homes, at least so they can take care of the most important things.

– We have geologists who are drilling the houses right now to try to determine where to return. But it is a huge device, says Dag André Sylju.

However, on attempts to keep people alive, he says:

– Time is not in our favor.

During the night until Saturday, you will not fly by helicopter over the race zone. However, drones equipped with thermal imaging cameras are used.

Rescue leader Geir Söderstål says that during the day large polystyrene slabs were used as a base for rescuers to walk through the mud slurry in order to get closer to the parts of the houses that protrude from the clay.

– Without these to follow, we dare not move there, it becomes too dangerous.

It has been quite a while since the landslide, it is snowing and it is a negative grade. Is it still a rescue operation?

– The campaign is not closed.
