During an inspection by IVO, several serious deficiencies were discovered at Svea Private Hospital in Södertälje. The clinic is run by acclaimed plastic surgeon Husham al-Wasty, who Expressen has reviewed in various publications.
Due to shortcomings, IVO now prohibits all activities and justifies it with the fact that there is a “significant risk to the life and health of patients who are cared for” there.
The authority focuses on:
That the hygiene in the premises is deficient.
That there are serious deficiencies in the skills of the staff.
That the follow-up of the remaining patients is poor.
“Gross incompetence”
Husham Al-Wasty was convicted in March 2020 of his denial of serious bodily injuries and illnesses, after a woman’s skin died in liposuction and tummy tuck surgery. The verdict has been appealed.
– If I had known who it was, then I would not have had this operation, never in my life. I’ve been injured for life, the woman told Expressen about the procedure.
According to IVO, more information has been received about serious medical injuries in patients who have undergone surgery at Husham al-Wasty.
“The complications have been life-threatening and have carried great risks of lifetime injury.
In September, the municipality prohibited SPS from operating, as the business was conducted in an office and it did not have a building permit.
“There were garbage bags everywhere, it had not been cleaned and there was dried blood on the operating table,” Police Inspector Britt Marie Talonpoika told Aftonbladet in connection with the decision.
According to IVO, there are “serious shortcomings” in the clinic’s staff and al-Wasty runs the risk of having his medical identification revoked due to “serious inability to practice his profession.”
Husham al-Wasty received a medical ID in Iraq in 1996 and in Sweden in 2010. Since 2011, he has been a specialist in surgery. Husham al-Wasty claims to have performed around 3,000 different operations and procedures in Sweden.
Expressen has searched for Husham al-Wasty.
This is what IVO is rejecting, that’s why the clinic is closing
