The woman, close to both the 70-year-old woman who lives at the address in Haninge Township and her 41-year-old son, had not been there in 20-25 years when she arrived at the apartment on Sunday. The fact that she went there now was because they told her that the woman was in the hospital.
When he got there, the door to the apartment was open. In dirty rooms things were scattered everywhere and there were holes above the noise and it was dark and quiet. In the kitchen, he found the 41-year-old man in the dark.
– There he sat alone in an armchair in the dark, and there were things everywhere. A streetlight shines through the kitchen window and I see a pair of legs sticking out, he says.
The woman, who is related to the 41-year-old, he says that the man reacted quickly when he understood that she was in the room.
– He looked at me with big eyes. He recognized me and whispered my name over and over.
The woman says she was surprised to see the 41-year-old man in the apartment and did not really know how to handle the situation at first. But she began by asking him how he was doing and if she could do something for him.
Then she saw his aching legs.
– It was terrible. It was very swollen from knee to foot.
But the 41-year-old could stand and walk, even if he limped when trying to move. However, it was not possible to put his swollen feet in any shoes.

The 41-year-old man also had almost no teeth in his mouth, according to the woman, and he himself said that he had not left the apartment in many years.
– I asked him myself, how long do you think you haven’t been out of the apartment. I was shocked and I don’t really remember it, but I think it said 15 years.
The related woman He further says that the 41-year-old seemed concerned. According to the relative, he has been isolated from everyone except his 70-year-old mother for a long time. So he assumed that he would probably freak out if they took him to a hospital, for example. Therefore, he asked permission to seek medical help for the man, and in the end, they were taken to hospital.
The woman says she told the 41-year-old man that “you never have to come back here again” in reference to the department where he is suspected of being locked up for 28 years.
She continues that he promised the 41-year-old man that he would be allowed to live in orderly conditions in a boarding house.
– He looked like a little boy when I told him that he can get a double bed to sleep in, that he has his own television and can do exactly what he wants with his life from now on, says the woman.
When the ambulance arrived and they went to the hospital, the man was nervous, the woman continues. Due to the prevailing pandemic, he was not allowed to go to the hospital, but reassured the man that he would have contact with the hospital.
Does the man have a problem before?
– No, I didn’t have it from the beginning. But now it does. He is a very hurt person. This is a man who was a totally normal child but has become increasingly isolated since childhood, says the woman.

According to the woman, the 41-year-old man has become less and less exposed to society, family, relatives and friends by staying in the apartment. The woman believes that it is the 70-year-old woman who has ensured that the 41-year-old son has withdrawn more and more from society.
– There have always been excuses like “you feel mentally ill, you can’t stand meeting people.” But it is she who has taken care of this. It hasn’t been that way from the beginning, the woman says.
The woman says that she herself has been in a nightmare life in which for many years she has warned that something is not right with the 70-year-old woman and her son. He says that, among other things, he has raised the issue with relatives, but also with the authorities in meetings with social and health services.
Everyone’s response has been that no crime has been committed and that the 41-year-old and his mother have their own will to live as they want. But the close woman has never accepted it.
– Nobody believed in me. Nerd.
