Throughout 2020, a total of eight corona outbreaks occurred in the Kronoberg Hospital region.

All have been investigated individually.

– But now we choose to do a joint report in agreement with Lex Maria, as we see a number of underlying causes that are common to the different outbreaks, explains Pär Lindgren, regional chief physician, to Smålänningen.

“Unhappy”

The different shoots differ from each other. Some have started among staff while others have started among patients.

– It is unfortunate that outbreaks have occurred in wards at risk of spreading the infection to patients and among staff. It is important that each individual outbreak is investigated and that we learn from the events. This has also happened, says Maria Wiltz, director of the hospital in the region, at Smålänningen.

To prevent further outbreaks, the region has now chosen to introduce clearer routines for tracking infections and other measures.

New routines

To prevent further outbreaks, the region has now chosen to introduce clearer routines for tracking infections and other measures.

– We must remember that the covid-19 virus was completely unknown to us a year ago. During the course of the pandemic, we have learned a lot about how to handle it and our employees have absorbed new knowledge in extraordinary ways, says Maria Wiltz.
