The 2021 football season is coming up. And now it’s increasingly clear how it would look in print.
At the end of November, GP was able to say that it was being argued about postponing the start of the season. This is also how it appears to be. However, not very far.

The proposal that is currently being approved by the Swedish Football Association speaks of a start of the Allsvenskan and Superettan around April 11, that is, a week after the basic plan, GP experiences.
– That’s right, confirms Mats Enquist, secretary general of Swedish elite football, and continues:
– It will be a long season if everything happens, it is SvFF who decides which one we can take as a no brainer. Our proposal is based on the fact that we played eight rounds in the Allsvenskan before the European Championship and 22 after. The league ends in early December. Superettan plays eleven rounds before the European Championship and 19 after. The league ends the last weekend of November to get a little closer to the end of Division 1.
Starting even later would ruin everything
The reason it is proposed that most rounds be during the fall is the audience factor. The later the year, the greater the chances that viewers will be able to enter the arenas.
– Yes, of course we want to win as much time as possible. But our hope is to have the opportunity to attract an audience already at the beginning of the season. I’ll never stop hoping for that, says Mats Enquist.
Why not go even further? Why not start in May or June, for example?
– First of all, it does not improve, rather it worsens. Or impossible. And it hasn’t been on the wallpaper that way. We have looked at different options, but everyone agrees with this. 100 percent.
Why not start around April 4, which was the basic plan?
– Since we spread out the show at the beginning, we get a better flow in matchmaking if we start a week later. But if we moved it more, we would destroy the rhythm and the whole.
Decisions can already be made on Friday
Mats Enquist continues:
– Sounds like a very good proposition. In this way we achieve it together the best possible sporting, financial and in terms of audience objectives. It feels good. It is the best compromise solution we can do. Planning a series is a bit like pushing an old duffel bag. If you press on one side, it will bubble on the other. We think it feels like a good solution.
It is unclear when exactly the Swedish Football Association will make a decision on the issue. However, Mats Enquist doesn’t think it takes long.
– It may arrive in the next few days, they are already far ahead.
Do you think they will accept your proposal?
– I believe and hope so, but I cannot swear it. It will be discussed with division 1 and also with other factors. But because the clubs are so close and all the factors stick together, the association generally considers it in its decision. It’s not always easy to find things that everyone agrees on, but everyone is happy about this.
