Helene Odenjung announced earlier this year that she will be leaving her position as group leader and school counselor for the Liberals in Gothenburg. She will retire at the end of the year.
When party members voted on September 25 on who they wanted to see as the group’s new leader after Helene Odenjung, Eva Flyborg got the most votes. She won with 85 votes before Axel Darvik who got 83 votes and Pär Gustafsson, 58 votes.
Now the party’s nominating committee has submitted its proposal, and it is Axel Darvik, a member of the council and elected since last year to the Liberal party board.
A unanimous committee is behind the decision.
– Yes, we nominated Axel Darvik and we will explain to the members why, says Åke Fransson, coordinator of the nominating committee.
– The selection of the internal sample is only one of several decision bases. Another thing we have had is, for example, the number of crossings to the municipal council in the last elections. At this stage, we are not prepared to further justify the decision in the media, he explains.
The election of a new group leader will take place on October 19.
After the trial selection of the members, Eva Flyborg stated:
– It is the members themselves who decide. They love me and I am fully prepared to accept this, says Eva Flyborg.
