The scammers pretend to work for Microsoft support and follow a script to build trust so that they can manipulate people into giving out different types of information. For example, it could be rights to remotely control the computer.
Now the Helsinki police write on Facebook that they themselves have been called. When the scammer called, the police investigator responded:
– You just called the police and we are well aware that you are trying to commit a crime.
The fraudster replied:
– This conversation was a mistake. Good continuation of the day.
According to the Åland Police, working scammers often in groups of so-called telephone service centers. They often have the opportunity to spoof the number displayed when they call; it may even be the case that your own number appears on the screen.
The police urge anyone who responds to such calls not to divulge any information, not to download any software requested by the scammer, or to connect the computer to the scammer.
