Tonight new restrictions take effect that prohibit restaurants and eateries from serving alcohol after 10 pm This is something that has caused the collapse of many of the country’s restaurateurs.
But in the proposal memorandum, the restaurants have found a loophole and several Stockholm restaurants have announced on social media that they will reopen the business after closing, but without serving alcohol. writes Aftonbladet.
Tonight, all restaurants will be able to reopen at 10:30 p.m. and since the clarification from the Public Health Agency came late, restaurants do not have to notify if they will reopen, according to Carina Cutlip, head of the permit unit in Stockholm.
– We have to follow what the Public Health Agency has written and they wrote that it should be closed for a certain time. In Stockholm we interpret it as 30 minutes, so it has to reopen at 10:30 p.m. It takes about half an hour to restart the business and make sure the alcohol is removed, says Carina Cutlip, adding:
– It can be interpreted differently in different municipalities, but in the city of Stockholm we have reached this conclusion.
Inspectors out
According to Carina Cutlip, they are aware that it is perfectly legal for restaurants to reopen.
– It’s an opportunity they have. There is space for that in the regulations. But it must be evacuated for half an hour and then alcohol should not be served.
The licensing authority has 16 inspectors who will come out on Friday to make sure the new regulations are being followed. The police will also be available to assist the licensing authority.
During today’s press conference, Interior Minister Mikael Damberg (S) was asked how the government sees restaurants wanting to reopen after 10 pm.
– I haven’t seen that information. It’s hard for me to see that there is demand for this type of business late at night. This is not the time to come together in social contexts to save lives in particular, he says.
