The traditional culture of house parties is noted as a major problem among the youth of Djursholm.
Township campers can run into drunken children as young as 12 and are sometimes forced to report their concerns.
– Too many parents are too liberal on these issues, says youth coordinator Fredrik Bergström.
Sometimes they get advice on house parties from neighbors, from anxious young people, or on the health of students at school who have heard rumors. Once in the place, they can meet a hundred young people, who celebrate in empty houses when their parents are not there.
– There are many large villas in Djursholm and it is not uncommon for us to see that there are an incredible number of young people at these parties, says Linnéa Andersson, one of the municipality’s youth coordinators who walks around the area at night in the evenings and on weekends .
– There may be councils about people from other municipalities who may be there with a completely different agenda. They know that there are expensive items in these houses and it is not uncommon for burglaries and robberies to occur.

“We work with the tip of an iceberg.” Lots of youth parties they never get to know about, say youth coordinators Moe Lahmar, Marie Karlsson, Burell Gubetini, Selina Eriksson and Linnéa Andersson, in Danderyd Township.
If there are no adults on site, try to get a tutor. But parents don’t always understand.
– It can look very different, there are many good parents. But also parents who need to find their parental role. Sometimes it is like speaking different languages. We could talk about minors at the party where there is alcohol and also other things. While some parents may focus on not disturbing the neighbors, says Linnéa Andersson.
Parents fearful of conflict
The attitude of letting go is only present in a small part of the parents, point out the youth coordinators of the municipality. But many children they find yearn for clearer rules and boundaries from the adult world, says Fredrik Bergström, who has also worked in socially disadvantaged areas like Hässelby.
– I have never met parents who are so afraid of conflict as here. They take the fight when it comes to dealing with school, but when it comes to this old party culture, they don’t always take the fight that way, he says.
At house parties, there have been life-threatening sexual abuse and “ugly alcohol”. Another problem is the so-called closed drug scene. In other socially disadvantaged suburbs, drugs are bought openly on the street. The addiction turns into an escape from reality, you drop out of school and isolate yourself.

Following the television series “The Greatest of All”, the Danderyds Township has launched the “Youth Focus” initiative to improve the mental state of young people in the Township.
Have the drugs delivered to the villa
But at Danderyd, drugs are a party culture behind the scenes. On Monday, you need to sit neatly at the school desk, write everyone correctly on the tests, and plan for a future at Handels or KTH. Externally, young people are high achievers and socially competent, they have great networks and are active in their spare time. They also see older generations around them who have managed to combine the party with a successful career.
– It is difficult to access what is happening in the villas, not even the police or we can enter someone’s house anyway. You might think that you should go to Plattan and buy drugs, but in reality it is not so if you have money and you are well off. Then you’d better pay a little more to have it delivered right away, says Linnéa Andersson.
A lot of people feel bad about the party culture.
Throwing a house party means status, and the following week you become a “frozen snack.” Many also find it difficult to resist when their parents leave and their friends make fun of you.
– Peer pressure is a very important factor. There is a large proportion of young people who think that it is difficult with this party culture, who feel that afterwards they have to put up with things that they do not think are so fun, says Fredrik Bergström.
He is careful to nuance the image, since it is only a small clique that is dedicated to snoring and having fun.
– An overwhelming majority of young people in Danderyd Township do not get involved in this, they are supportive. It is important for me to have that said. 60 percent have not even tried alcohol.
