The municipalities where the coronavirus is spreading the most at the moment

Nordanstig, Helsingborg and Söderhamn are currently the municipalities most affected by the covid-19 infection.

Moderate Peter Danielsson, Helsingborg City Councilor, says:

– We are in a very serious situation.

The report of the Public Health Agency on cases of covid-19 verified in the last week at the municipal level was published on Thursday afternoon. With the figures, Aftonbladet has calculated which municipalities in the country had the highest proportion of infections during week 49.

Karin Tegmark Wisell, head of department at the Swedish Public Health Agency, commented on the overall figures at Thursday’s press conference:

– We have a large number of cases in the country. Some regions have an increase like the one we see at the national level, others have a more stable outlook. Other regions have seen a decline in recent weeks.

Locally, 163 out of 290 municipalities had an increase in established infection last week, Aftonbladet’s calculation shows. The infection decreased in Stockholm and Gothenburg, but increased in Malmö.

Nordanstig in Hälsingland is the municipality in the country that had the highest spread of the infection in week 49. One percent, 95 of the 9,489 inhabitants, tested positive for covid-19.

– It’s terribly boring. This can happen when you contract a cluster infection in a small municipality, says City Councilor Ola Wigg (S).

What was it due to?

– The infection entered the Sörgården nursing home in the central city of Bergsjö. There have been many infected there, including among the staff. We have done fantastically well in the past. Our accommodation has very good attention to the cohorts.

Why was Sörgården unsuccessful?

– That is a good question. It didn’t come from the staff, because they did tests there. None of the visitors have been positive either. The routines have worked, it must have come about in a different way, says Wigg.

The second most affected in the country in the country, Scanian Helsingborg with 1294 cases and 0.9 percent infected in a week, was seriously exposed before. City Councilman Peter Danielsson says:

– We are in a very serious situation. That is why we already left last Friday with a text message to 47,000 mobile users in Helsingborg where we urge everyone to really follow the strictest municipalities.

It has not succeeded. Week 48 there were 1015 cases, last week even more?

– Those who know this type of thing say that the effects of this type of mass communication take a little longer. If it continues to rise next Thursday, then you can say that even though we hit the drum wide, it hasn’t helped.

What is the reason for the increase?

– We probably have an extended cluster, and then it’s like a fire that continues. But we don’t know exactly why and how, says Danielsson.

The third most affected municipality is Söderhamn in Hälsingland, with 213 cases (0.8 percent of the population) infected in one week. Councilmember John-Erik Jansson (C) says:

– We clearly notice that we have a great spread of the infection. Many are on sick leave from our operations, the burden of care is very high.

The week before you were in eighth place in Sweden, now you are in third place?

– It’s a nasty trend. I don’t have a really good explanation for that, says Jansson.

Note: On Thursday, Aftonbladet published another article on the infection at the municipal level. These were the municipalities that had the highest proportion of total infection since the beginning of the pandemic, that is, from week 6 to week 48.
