It was at 3:31 p.m. on Saturday that SOS was alerted to a suspected drowning incident.
A ship lay upside down with an electric motor running at Frissjön in Sävsjö.
Emergency services, an ambulance and the police were called to the scene and an extensive search operation began.
Wanted by helicopter
It later turned out that a man in his 70s disappeared after a fishing trip and was reported missing.
During Saturday, Sunday and Monday, police, rescue services and volunteers searched with the help of helicopters, drones, boats, divers and dogs.
On Tuesday, the police can claim that the man is feared drowned and the police have produced a missing person report.
– We have focused the search on the fact that we are looking for a deceased person and this means that we then search in a special way. The resource we have, our best asset, are our dogs that have been trained to smell the special smell that bodies emit when a person dies, says Åsa Emanuelsson, press spokesperson for the police in the southern region.
Family members are notified
She explains that the dead dogs will not be in place 24 hours a day, but searches will be conducted several times a day.
– Our dogs do the most work during the week. This will happen from the surface of the water and around the shores around the lake. Frissjön is not closed so that people can move freely there, says Åsa Emanuelsson.
The relatives of the alleged missing man have been notified.
