The metal compartment: “Many people probably have a lump in their stomach”

Christian Mattsson himself has participated in meetings about the decision that Preem has now chosen to withdraw its request to expand its Lysekil refinery.

– The decision has emerged in recent times. We have not been able to justify this commercially and that is why there have not been so many other alternatives, he says.

Moderate mood

Although the announcement was expected, he believes the environment in the workplace is currently subdued. Christian Mattsson believes that the Lysekil refinery alone could have meant up to 300 new jobs.

– This gigantic project that we have now chosen to keep would have meant that we would have contributed much more manpower. It won’t be like that now. Among employees, there are probably many who have a stomach knot, and all the media courtship hasn’t been completely fun for everyone to handle, says Christian Matsson.

“Applies to re-prioritize”

At the same time, he believes that most employees understand management decisions.

– There is nothing we are holding on to and, as it seems now, all of our employees here at Lysekil will be able to continue. Swedish industry is currently undergoing a steel bath and then it is important to re-prioritize and invest in renewable products that the government fully supports, says Christian Mattson, president of the IF Metall club in Preemraff.
