Leksand had a big loss at the premiere. The team converted a 1-4 deficit into 4-4 and forced an extension where Skellefteå pulled the longest drop.
In the opening match, Leksand conceded three goals in boxplay and did not score a single one in numerical superiority. Already in the first period against Malmö, they looked different when they stayed close outnumbered and accounted for two power play goals.
Pontus Westerholm dropped to 2-3 early in the second period, but Carter Camper rose shortly after to 2-4, played by chainmate Marek Hrivik.
Leksand: the superstring behind it all
With 41 seconds to go, Lars Bryggman injected a dose of excitement into the game when he made it 3-4.
But Malmö never managed to catch up, and instead Peter Cehlarik punctured the Redhawks’ hope when he sent 3-5 into the open area.
The star chain with Camper, Hrivik and Peter Cehlarik was involved in all of Leksand’s goals in the win against Malmö, and has a total of 15 points after two games played.
Malmö coach dissatisfied: “Our performance is mediocre”
The local team’s coach, Joakim Fagervall, is not at all satisfied with the effort at the premiere.
– Our performance is mediocre. There are many who have work to do. I don’t know why it is. It’s hard to tell that you’re nervous on an empty ice rink …
Isn’t it the coach’s responsibility if he’s mediocre on the ice?
– Everything is the responsibility of the coach. If things go wrong, it is the coach’s responsibility. Our performance is low. It is lower than in our training matches. The first ten are fine, the rest of the match is too weak!
Camper pays tribute to Slovaks
The happiest faces of Leksand, and not least of the organizer of victory Carter Camper.
– Of course it feels good to win. We control the game and take advantage of our chances. We feel strong, says the American and pays tribute to the chain comrades of Slovakia: Hrivik and Cehlarik.
– We had good chemistry together during the preseason. I am happy to play with these two great players. We have a lot of playing time from our coach. It is important to feel that he and our colleagues can trust us. As long as we work hard and well, we will continue like this.
Why are they so good together?
– We can score goals all three. They are both large and can accommodate me. I’m more of a playmaker, so I think it’s a good mix of different characters.
