On Wednesday, an elite Swedish judge was arrested on suspicion of money laundering. Four other people were arrested in the same police raid in western Sweden.

– The suspicions are a flagrant fraud for the principal and a flagrant money laundering for the other detainees, said the prosecutor Martin Elofsson.

The detained judge is active and has judged at the highest level both abroad and in Sweden. According to information from SportExpressen, he has had hundreds of thousands of crowns in personal debt in recent years, and in March of this year he stole a baking machine worth just over 1,200 crowns from an Ica Maxi store.

Interrogations were conducted with the suspects on Thursday and now the prosecutor Martin Elofsson has requested that two people be arrested.

Suspended by the union

One of them is the judge described as the director.

– I have sent an arrest petition and it was made for two people today. Arrest negotiations will take place tomorrow, Martin Elofsson tells Fotbollskanalen.

On Thursday, the referee for the Swedish Football Association, Stefan Johannesson, announced that the suspected referee will be suspended for the time being.

– So is. He is under investigation and of course he is disconnected from all federal assignments as a judge pending the police investigation. If he turns out to be guilty, he will not judge further in our series, Johannesson said.
