The covid situation in Sweden has deteriorated. Last week, the number of new cases increased by 70 percent compared to the previous week, one of the largest increases observed.
– Part of this is due to increased testing, but we also have an increasing spread of the infection, says state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell.
The dominant increase occurs between the ages of 20 and 60, but it is everywhere. There is also a small, but significant increase in the number of new admissions to IVA.
– We are also beginning to approach a critical point here in Sweden, says Tegnell.
Iréne Nilsson Carlsson, Counselor for Public Health, National Board of Health and Welfare, says the burden of care has increased a bit, but the situation is still under control.
More about VAT
During the past week, the number of covid-19 patients in IVA rooms increased to 55 people.
– This means that 15 percent of patients in VAT receive care for covid-19, says Irene Nilsson Carlsson.
However, accessibility to VAT sites nationwide is still very good, he says. But most regions expect a deterioration of the situation both in the long and short term.
Anders Tegnell says that the development of patients with Iva is not very fast.
– Not really because we started at relatively low levels. We still have very few hospitalized vats compared to last spring, says Anders Tegnell, and once again he reminds us of the importance of following the advice so as not to end up in the same situation as last spring.
Unclear scenario
This summer, the Swedish Public Health Agency introduced three potential secretaries on what the spread of the infection might look like in Sweden now through the fall and into next fall. Tegnell says that so far it is too early to say which scenario we are in now.
– The scenarios were not forecasts, but above all a planning basis for the regions. So I think we have to wait, it is difficult to say today what scenario we have.
