The Left Party’s threat to arouse mistrust in Stefan Löfven was the hottest topic before Sunday’s party leader debate. The resigning leader of the left, Jonas Sjöstedt, who was going to participate in his last debate, was the protagonist of the evening when he arrived at the Stockholm television house.
This week, Sjöstedt reiterated that he would demand a response from Löfven during the labor market debate, and would force the Prime Minister to distance himself from the changes in labor law proposed in the controversial latest investigation.
But Löfven sidestepped the question and explained that the social partners still have the opportunity to negotiate clearly.
– I have said that the investigation that has been presented is not balanced, says the Prime Minister.
Hard duel
It was a tough duel between Annie Lööf (C) and Sjöstedt, where the V-leader accused Lööf of wanting to give the boss a “10-0”. Sjöstedt also harshly criticized Stefan Löfven, calling him “dishonest” and “extremely confusing”. Leader C replied that Sjöstedt “was seething with ideological anger.”
When the other party leaders were allowed in, Ebba Busch (KD) demanded a response from Jonas Sjöstedt. She, like Ulf Kristersson (M) and Jimmie Åkesson (SD), felt that the V-leader did not take her threat seriously.
– This is just a political game. Löfven does not dare to legislate and Sjöstedt does not dare to overthrow the government, says Kristersson during the debate.
– We want to give this government the opportunity to do the right thing. The investigation must be withdrawn. I will continue to give time to the January parties, a couple of weeks. This can be fixed, Jonas Sjöstedt replied.
Annie Lööf: “Sad”
After the debate, Annie Lööf harshly criticized the leftist leader.
– I think it is sad that we spend so much time in the political game and hook the arm of the Left Party with SD to solve by-elections or government crisis. I think it’s frivolous.
– He does it mainly to attract attention, says Lööf.
According to her, renegotiating the latest investigation, proposed by the Prime Minister, is out of the question. Jimmie Åkesson was also critical and felt that the situation had calmed down.
– Jonas Sjöstedt did not get the answers he demanded, and then he asked for them. But now, instead, he has extended the deadline, says the SD leader.
– It was obvious that they had no intention of carrying out their threats, says Ulf Kristersson.
“Only Jonas Sjöstedt knows”
Stefan Löfven says after the debate that he does not know how the Left Party will act next.
– Only Jonas Sjöstedt knows what is serious and what is not. But I think it is wrong to hold on and upset the parties in such a delicate situation.
– I wish Jonas Sjöstedt didn’t threaten himself. I think the best we can do, all parties, is make sure the parties have what they need to move forward, says MP Per Bolund spokesperson.
