Scouts have been working and planning their next national jamboree (a large camp) for the past year. Despite the pandemic, the starting point has been that the great situation would be fixed as planned in the summer of 2021.
But that will not be the case.
– We are really looking forward to the jamboree and we know how much it means for our young explorers to be able to go to camp and meet other explorers from all over the country. Now that the spread of the infection still continues in society and the Public Health Agency is clear that society will also be affected in 2021, so we can expect there to be restrictions for large crowds and for food service next summer. says the general secretary of the scouts, Anna-Karin Hennig. in a press release.
When the last national jamboree took place outside Kristianstad in 2017, the honorary president of the scouts, King Carl XVI Gustaf, participated.
The King is also the honorary president of the International World Scout Foundation.
Thousands of participants are expected
The scouts write in their press release that planning with Jamboree21 continues in close collaboration with the Kristianstad municipality and Event in Skåne. They both support the decision to postpone the event and welcome all participants to Norra Åsum in the summer of 2022.
In total, 10,000 Swedish scouts and 1,000 international participants are expected.
– When we can finally carry out our camp, all the scouts and leaders will have an even greater need to meet and experience adventures together after living with restrictions for so long, says camp manager Elin Jungevi.
