The government wants to facilitate the closure of the lack of schools

– It’s obvious to me that more needs to be done, says Anna Ekström. Anyone who repeatedly violates their assignment should not be able to get away with taking temporary measures.

“The chances that the Swedish School Inspectorate will close schools with significant deficiencies, both independent and municipal, will increase,” it says in the January 2019 agreement between S, MP, C and L. Today it is not possible that the authority close municipal schools and other principals can continue even if they make mistakes again and again.

– The idea is that the Swedish School Inspectorate can demand that misconduct be redressed and schools closed even if it is remedied. Directors who receive criticism and take action can today, so to speak, reestablish the situation in that way; it is in such cases that the authority should have the right to close schools, says Anna Ekström.

Moderate education policy spokeswoman Kristina Axén Olin believes today’s message is “incredibly gratifying.”

– Finally! It is gratifying that C and L have forced this decision, but then it is so we want to go further, we want to be able to measure the quality between schools and publish it. It should also be possible to close schools that do not perform well enough in terms of quality. The school building does not have to close, all the management can be replaced as in other countries, says Kristina Axén Olin.

A point with The government’s proposal is to equate municipal schools with those of other principals: since 2010, 30 independent schools have been closed and one municipal school has received the so-called state correction measure. The proposal will now be presented so that the government can, under the plan, present a bill by next summer and for the new rules to go into effect in January 2022.
