The government removes the secret of crown support for companies

Government support for companies withdrawing for a short period is estimated at 43 billion SEK this year. But when journalists – or others – want to know which companies get the money, the Swedish Agency for Regional and Economic Growth has said no, referring to trade secrets.

Last week, SVT Nyheter was able to reveal that more than 2,000 companies are at risk of being required to repay the support, because they have earned equity dividends. But we do not know which companies it is. Even when confidentiality has been appealed to the courts, the answer has been negative.

Now the government wants to change that.

Suggest exceptions

The government proposes an exemption from secrecy, which according to the Ministry of Finance will take effect on July 1, 2021.

– Now the government is changing the legislation so that everyone can review it, says Magdalena Andersson.

Finance Minister believes change can be implemented without revealing too many trade secrets

– Companies send a lot of support material. It won’t be public, but it’s the real decisions about who gets support and how large the amounts of support are that will be public, he tells SVT.

The fact that secrecy will be lifted next year means previous decisions on redundancy assistance will also be published.
