The government has promised a message on whether it has continued to trust Eliasson, but it will be delayed. Damberg announces through his press secretary Per Strängberg that he will meet with Eliasson later this week “to listen and discuss the situation that has arisen.”
“Everyone has a responsibility to follow the advice of authorities, avoid congestion and keep the spread of infection low. I have read the media report on Dan Eliasson’s trip and my Secretary of State has recently contacted him, ”Damberg says in the written statement.
The trip receives harsh criticism on Facebook. During several of the MSB’s messages about the rules for fireworks and restrictions due to the pandemic, many wonder why they should follow the authority’s ordinances and recommendations when the CEO does not.
“Trust is zero”
Here are some of them:
“Completely shit on your ordinances and recommendations. If your own boss, Dan Eliasson, can go on vacation to the Canary Islands, you’ll only look pathetic.”
“Confidence in this authority is zero today. A person like Dan Eliasson cannot stay if we in Sweden want to have some confidence in the authorities.”
“Why should people comply with the current restrictions if not even the director of the MSB does? Is it possible that he remains in office despite the great lack of confidence that he has created through his negligent behavior? Enough because we are all like children in this crisis, but you can expect more from someone in your position. “
Mikael Westerlund of the MSB press service says the authority does not want to comment on the reactions.
“He did not break the law”
Jan Karlsson, president of the ST union at MSB, says no member contacted him with opinions about the CEO’s Christmas trip. He also hasn’t had time to meet Dan Eliasson after Christmas, but hopes they’ll be seen at a meeting for party cooperation on Tuesday next week.
– Spontaneously, it feels a bit difficult that I have to give up because of this. He hasn’t broken the law, says Jan Karlsson.
Jörgen Mähler, President of Saco, and Ann-Britt Paradis, President of Seko at MSB, have also received no reaction from members.
“The trip was necessary”
On Saturday, Dan Eliasson himself gave his own photo to Expressen, which was the first to report on the trip.
– I have made the assessment that the trip is necessary. I have a daughter who lives and works here. And I celebrated Christmas with her and my family. “I have given up many trips during this pandemic, but I thought this was necessary,” the head of the authority told the newspaper.

Dan Eliasson was born in 1961 and grew up in Garpenberg in Dalarna. Since 2018, he has been Managing Director and therefore the head of MSB (the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency). Already the same summer, the authority and the general director were criticized for lack of preparation in relation to the extensive forest fires that later ravaged.
Before that, Eliasson was Chief of Police and then relied on, among other things, during the large and debated reorganization of the police in 2015. He was then criticized from various quarters, mostly internally within the police. In addition to criticism regarding the reorganization, Eliasson was blamed for the decline in clearance results and for police officers leaving the profession in discontent.
Previously, Eliasson also managed to be Director General of the Swedish Social Security Agency, the Swedish Migration Agency and Acting Deputy Chief of the Security Police (Säpo). He has a law degree from Uppsala University.
