The decision came in heat 14 where Antonio Lindbäck and Vadim Tarasenko took a fifth.

In the end, Masarna won the match with a total of 98-82 in two matches.

The second final match was the same as the first, very close. The Indians led the party, but never fully caught up.

The great gold rush came in the ten eleven heat.

In the tenth tie, Danish Kenneth Bjerre was stopped in the last lap, so the Masars could win the tie 5-1 instead of 4-2. In the heat that followed, Masarna’s best scorer in the match, Russian Vadim Tarasenko led a new five alongside Danish star Nicki Pedersen.

Suddenly, the Masars had taken an eight point lead, which was twelve in all.

First gold since 2000

The Indians were never able to recover from that. The Masers were able to lift the Swedish Championship trophy again after a 20-year wait.

Then in 2000 Masarna won gold led by one Tony Rickardsson in the final against Rospiggarna.

Danish star Nicki Pedersen became one of the great heroes of this year’s gold team. Pedersen was drafted into the team late, just before the playoffs.

But he delivered what he was recruited for. In the final matches, Pedersen took 10 and 12 points respectively.

– We have a great team. I came here to take the points that were needed. 2020 has been a strange year, with a lot of chaos. I am happy that the league has started in Sweden and I am very happy for the club and the fans that we managed to win the gold, says Nicki Pedersen, who took his third gold in Sweden in his career.

Still in the club is the question?

– We’ll see, says Nicki Pedersen before continuing the gold celebration.

Disappointment in the Indians

For the Indians, the final loss spelled a new gold failure and the fourth silver since 2011. Local son Joel Andersson tried to put the failure into words.

– We’re close for a while. But we lose it and we don’t catch up. The masses win, they are worth it, they drive very well, says Joel Andersson.

The absence of World Championship drivers Max Fricke and Niels-Kristian Iversen was too difficult a space for the Kum team to fill.

– I feel like we’re really worth more gold. We have been very good during the playoffs. But then it sucks that we don’t get to all the drivers. It’s a shame, but something that happens is the speedway, says Joel Andersson.
