The background is that a large part of the entertainment life in Avenyn has been affected by the restrictions of the crown, while the pubs and taverns around Järntorget have been able to continue as much as before. This shows in the number of violent crimes, something that Göteborg Direkt was the first to report.
– We see a reduction in half of violent crimes in Kungsportsavenyn. In Järntorget and the long streets, on the other hand, it has practically not changed, about 50 violent crimes in a public environment per year, notes Roberto Tomé, who is the municipal police of Majorna-Linné.

Most of these crimes are committed at dawn, when the taverns are closed.
– There is a lot of drunkenness around 01 o’clock. Two drunks who think differently now and there, says Roberto Tomé.
Criminals want to promote themselves
At the same time, what Tomé calls “outlying network criminals” has increasingly started to move around Järntorget. According to him, it is about the upper echelons of the gangs that sell drugs.

– They want to be where the people are. It’s about promoting yourself in pub settings, showing how much money you have, what cheeky cars you have. You have a lot of friends with you, you take up a lot of space, you’re a bit tough.
“Drugs sold like hot dogs on bread”
At the same time, street sales, which were already common, have increased in scope. Roberto Tomé has described it as the drug that is sold “like sausages with bread.”
– They Yes. The later the clock is set, the more blatant the drug trade around Andra långgatan becomes. We call it an open drug scene. You go actively and sell drugs, everyone who passes by asks, you are not afraid that people will call the police. It occurs throughout the night and increases as the clock progresses.
What preparations are there?
– Cannabis and marijuana are the most common. There is also cocaine, amphetamine, tramadol, and even heroin.
Should local residents be concerned?
– No I dont think so. Violent crime occurs at times when ordinary residents are not away from home, and many of the victims are often not ordinary people.

More camera surveillance
One of the police countermeasures is a new surveillance camera, which is expected to be installed in about a month. A camera is already sitting next to Järntorget and looking towards Andra långgatan. The new one will be placed one block away, at the Nordhemsgatan – Andra långgatan intersection, and will be shot in the direction of Masthuggstorget.
– We will benefit from investigations and also when mapping people who handle drugs, says Roberto Tomé.
