The game that endangers the lives of children at school

Madeleine Strasek is the director of Älvsåkersskolan in Kungsbacka. She says she has been noticed three times in the past month when children lie down on a street right outside the school.

According to the director, they challenge each other to stay as long as they dare, and are also challenged to do sit-ups and push-ups when the cars arrive.

– I don’t know where the kids got it from, and I’m not saying it’s Tiktok, but Tiktok is a platform where there are similar challenges, says Madeleine Strasek.

New incident this week

Last Monday it happened again and then Madeleine Strasek got in touch with the parents of all the students, something that Göteborgs-Posten was the first to tell.

– We have followed our routines and at first we only spoke with the parties involved, that is, the students and the parents. But when it was discovered again, we decided to contact all the parents. We’ve also talked to all the classes to make sure this doesn’t happen again, says Madeleine Strasek and continues:

– Because the person doing the challenge is not himself in this. There have been students everywhere and everyone is involved, even if they just watch.

Lotta Gottfridsson, 36, has a son who is in his fourth year at Älvsåkersskolan.

– You have not really understood what children do. He thinks they want to kill himself, she says.

“Very little information”

At the same time, he criticizes the fact that the school has kept silent about the events. She says it was only in Monday’s incident that an email was sent to all parents about the challenge.

– All parents should have been informed from the beginning. It is something so serious that you must inform everyone, it can have devastating consequences. I’m so glad no one was hurt, says Lotta Gottfridsson.

As a concerned mother, she herself has taken action by spreading information about the challenge on local Facebook groups. He has also contacted the police to see what they can do.

– It is better to do too much than too little. Not only children can have devastating consequences, but the one who can run over a child and the one who sees their friend run over, says Lotta Gottfridsson.

However, Madeleine Strasek believes that the criticism is not justified.

– Hard to say in hindsight. We have our routines when things happen at school. So the routines are the ones we take as students and parents who are affected. These are the routines we have and the ones we follow, he says.
