This week, the field hospital, which was called IVA Kronan, opened for several patients with a crown. But now top doctors are warning about serious deficiencies in the temporary intensive care unit, writes SVT West.
Two of the tents leaked water overnight between Saturday and Sunday. All nine crown patients were cared for in one of the leaking tents, reports GP.
According to critical physicians, the tent outside Eastern Hospital has a poor care environment to treat seriously ill patients and risk people’s lives.
– There is no water or drain in the store. It is crowded and patients have to be much denser than in a regular room. Also, ventilation is poor and respirators are very outdated, says a SVT West senior doctor.

Round emergency work environment
Henrik Sundeman, Head of VAT Operations Kronan, confirms that they are much more crowded in the field hospital than in a regular department.
– But there is running water in the tent and the tent is built adjacent to the hospital, so we don’t need to install any temporary toilets, says Henrik Sundeman, operations manager.

The chief doctor says that the field hospital is “a great experiment” and that “you play with people’s lives.”
He believes that the hospital now has an educational task.
– It is important to realize that we are in a very difficult situation that is unique to Sweden and it is important to us to ensure that patients receive the best possible care and that we can make changes quickly that save our lives.
Seriously ill patients are relocated
Henrik Sundeman also notes that seriously ill patients are being moved from the store.
– We are very careful in selecting patients and working closely with the intensive care units of the Eastern Hospital. Distances are not long.
The field hospital will now continue to open locations. On Tuesday, IVA Kronan will have equipment for 36 intensive care units.
Now, it’s a lot about staffing the department with the right staff, and Henrik Sundeman is careful to thank all the staff who are in a difficult situation.
– It is absolutely incredible with the power and ambition that everyone puts to save this situation.
According to the Stockholm Region, the field hospital at the Stockholm fair in Älvsjö has not yet received patients.
– No, we have not received patients yet. We have capacity in our hospitals at the moment, but it is ready if the situation worsens, ”Hanna Fellenius, press secretary for the Stockholm Region, told TT.
