In the days after the funeral, the family gathered to light candles at the memorial site on Friedländer Street, where 42-year-old Ognjen Kostadinovic was found severely stabbed outside his home nearly three weeks ago.
– I had probably managed to push it away a bit, but when we were in the church and I saw the coffin, it became so real, says Jelena Panic Kostadinovic.
She holds the stroller firmly where eight-month-old Anastasija lies warm in bed, protected from the cold October rain. Next to it is the closest relative, Bojana, along with Ognjen’s mother and sister. Thanks to “urgent family reasons”, they were able to circumvent the travel ban, which applies to countries outside the EU with the crown, and come to Sweden.
– This is the first time we meet Anastasija. She is so much like him and while the heart is full of love, it is also a great feeling of emptiness. It is a new life but we have also lost another, says Vera Kostadinovic, Ognjen’s mother.
When the message reached him, at first he couldn’t believe it was true.
– It was a shock. I feel great sorrow, there is nothing worse than burying your son. There is nothing you should be a part of during your life.

There are no suspects at this time
It was on October 6 at 9:00 p.m. that Ognjen Kostadinovic left the apartment to throw out the garbage, put the stroller in the storage room and leave a charger for his father-in-law. Just a few minutes later, they found him badly stabbed outside the home.
They called an ambulance and took him to the hospital, but his life could not be saved.
Since then, the police have worked feverishly on the case. Initially, nothing could move the police forward and they couldn’t find any motive for the incident. The leader of the preliminary investigation, Jarl Winqvist, described the case as a mystery.
According to current recon leader Stefan Olofsson, they cannot comment on the details, but he believes the investigation is looking good.
– We have a lot of information to process and it takes time, but I hope positively. There are no suspects at the moment, but of course we are looking at different people, he says.

Encourage more people to get in touch
Otherwise you don’t want to comment on any motif image or whether it may be an act of insanity.
– We have listened to many and we continue to do so. So we cannot talk about what we have achieved but we do our best to try to fix it.
Although the police have heard from many witnesses, they still urge more to hear from them. All observations in the immediate area between 9:30 and 9:30 on Tuesday night can help advance the investigation.
– What we miss are those who have been around but may think they have not seen anything significant. We are interested in everything, even if it may seem insignificant, says Stefan Olofsson.

Important to keep the conversation alive
It was some time before Jelena Panic Kostadinovic could return to the apartment and to the place where Ognjen Kostadinovic was found. Once he got there, he saw the memorial site.
– I don’t know who started it, but friends, neighbors and coworkers have come to leave flowers and light candles. Many express great pain and sympathy, they are also afraid and anxious about what happened. It could have happened to anyone, says Jelena Panic Kostadinovic.
Despite all the sadness, it is still important for Jelena Panic Kostadinovic to make her voice heard. Feel an obligation to Anastasija and Ognjen to keep the conversation going.
– We need to talk about what happened. This was not another victim in the ongoing gang conflict with a criminal past, but an unpunished father and worker of young children.
Until now, she has been surrounded by family and friends. Over the weekend, their daughter Anastasija was baptized before the rest of the family returned to Serbia.
– I’m a little afraid of what it will be like when they leave. They fill everyday life with so much love, but life must go on. It was like I told his mother, you cry for him while I cry for a lifetime. It is a lot at the same time and I think a lot about the future.
If you made any observations Tuesday night at Friedländers cat on Hisings Backa that may be of importance to the investigation, you can contact the police at the number 114 14.
